Summary
Big Sun Solar is seeking an accomplished and licensed Solar Crew Foreman to lead and oversee a team of electricians and solar installers on commercial solar installations, including rooftop and canopy-mounted systems. The ideal candidate possesses a solid electrical background, extensive solar installation experience, and a strong command of 3-phase AC systems and 1000V DC systems. This role demands proficient leadership, in-depth knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), and the ability to manage complex installations efficiently while upholding the highest safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide direct supervision and guidance to a team of electricians and solar installers on commercial solar projects.
• Install and terminate 3-phase 120/208V and 277/480V AC systems and 1000V DC systems for commercial-scale solar PV installations.
• Interpret and execute blueprints, electrical schematics, and site plans to ensure accurate and compliant system installation.
• Supervise and participate in conduit installation, wire pulls, and electrical terminations, including pipe bending and routing.
• Ensure all electrical work aligns with NEC, OSHA, and local code requirements, maintaining exceptional safety standards.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and leadership to manage project timelines, resource needs, and staffing.
• Operate or oversee the operation of heavy equipment such as lifts, trenchers, and forklifts as needed.
• Diagnose and resolve electrical issues related to commercial solar PV systems.
• Maintain thorough documentation of completed work, materials utilized, and inspections conducted.
• Train and mentor crew members to reinforce efficiency, compliance, and adherence to safety protocols.
Qualifications
Required:
• Active Journeyman Electrician license with experience in commercial electrical work.
• At least 5 years of commercial solar installation experience.
• Comprehensive understanding of the NEC, electrical codes, and industry best practices.
• Demonstrated experience with 3-phase 120/208V and 277/480V AC systems and 1000V DC systems.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical blueprints and schematics.
• Skilled in pipe bending, conduit installation, and wire pulling for commercial applications.
• Proven leadership experience directing and managing construction crews.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with senior leadership.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Valid driver's license and flexibility to travel to various job sites as required.
Preferred:
• Prior involvement in large-scale commercial solar PV projects, including rooftop and canopy installations.
• Familiarity with operating heavy equipment (e.g., forklifts, aerial lifts, trenchers).
• NABCEP certification or other solar-related credentials.
