Job Description

As a Solar Installer, you’ll be responsible for assisting with the installation, maintenance, and repair of solar PV systems. You'll work closely with senior electricians and technicians to learn the necessary skills and knowledge required for this position. If you have a keen interest in renewable energy, a willingness to learn, and a strong commitment to safety protocols, this position is for you.

Key Responsibilities:

•       Assist with Installation: Aid with the installation of solar PV systems on commercial properties involving tasks such as mounting PV modules, connecting wiring, and ensuring proper alignment and orientation. Assist with installing electrical systems in commercial or industrial settings under the supervision of a licensed electrician involving running wires, mounting fixtures, and connecting components according to blueprints and electrical codes.

•       Follow Safety Procedures: Adhere strictly to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment and prevent accidents. This includes wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following proper procedures for working at heights.

•       Collaboration: Work closely with other team members, including electricians, contractors, and project managers, to complete projects efficiently and effectively. This may involve following instructions, seeking clarification when needed, and communicating progress updates.

•       Learn Electrical Skills: Under the guidance of senior electricians, learn electrical principles and techniques relevant to solar energy systems. This may involve studying electrical diagrams, understanding wiring configurations, and practicing safe electrical work practices.

•       Assist with Repairs: Assist in diagnosing and repairing faults or malfunctions in solar PV systems. This could involve troubleshooting electrical issues, replacing damaged components, or reconfiguring system settings.

•       Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of work performed, including installation procedures, maintenance activities, and any repairs conducted. Report any issues or concerns to senior staff promptly.

•       Customer Interaction: Interact professionally with customers during installations and maintenance visits. Answer basic questions about solar energy systems and provide courteous service at all times.

•       Tools and Equipment: Familiarize oneself with tools, equipment, and materials commonly used in electrical work. This includes hand tools, power tools, meters, and electrical components.

•       Physical Requirements: Be capable of performing physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods, as electrical work often involves working in various environments and conditions.

Qualifications:

Required:

•       Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Additional vocational training or coursework in electrical systems or renewable energy is advantageous.

•       Technical Skills: Minimum of 2 years experience with solar PV installations is highly preferred.Basic understanding of electrical principles and concepts is preferred. Familiarity with hand and power tools commonly used in construction and electrical work is preferred. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Willingness to learn new skills and technologies related to solar PV installations.

•       Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting heavy equipment, working at heights, and standing for extended periods. Comfort working outdoors in various weather conditions.

•       Safety Consciousness: Strong commitment to safety protocols and guidelines. Willingness to undergo safety training and adhere to safety regulations at all times.

•       Team Player: Ability to work effectively as part of a team, taking direction from senior staff and collaborating with colleagues to achieve project goals.

•       Attention to Detail: Good attention to detail to ensure accurate installation and maintenance of solar energy systems. Ability to follow instructions carefully and perform tasks with precision.

•       Communication Skills: Clear verbal communication skills to interact with team members and customers effectively. Ability to follow instructions and ask questions when clarification is needed.

•       Transportation: Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Preferred:

•       Prior involvement in large-scale commercial solar PV projects, including rooftop and canopy installations.

•       Familiarity with operating heavy equipment (e.g., forklifts, aerial lifts, trenchers).

•       NABCEP certification or other solar-related credentials.

Skills and Competencies:

•       Expertise in troubleshooting electrical and solar system-related issues.

•       High attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.

•       Capacity to work in outdoor environments, at heights, and under varying weather conditions.

•       Unwavering commitment to workplace safety and best practices.

Physical Requirements:

•       Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and perform physically demanding tasks on rooftops.

•       Comfort working at heights and in different weather conditions.
